Recoil Patterns

Turn a spray into hand movement

A pattern is only useful once you know what it costs your hand. Enter what a burst actually does on your screen and this works out the centimetres, the mouse counts and the timing for every single shot.

Why there is no built-in AK pattern here

Facepunch replaced the fully scripted recoil in June 2022. What a weapon does now is a fixed component plus a per-shot random component, and both are retuned in ordinary monthly patches. Neither the Facepunch wiki nor rustlabs publishes the per-shot offsets, and the pattern images that circulate disagree with each other and are rarely dated.

A table of coordinates labelled "AK-47" would therefore be an invented constant wearing a weapon's name. The numbers below start as a neutral straight line — they are placeholders, not Rust data. Fire at a wall, measure what you get, and the maths underneath is exact.

Your profile

The burst you are drilling

Name it, say how many rounds you are practising, and give it a fire rate if you want the timing and speed figures.

A label for your own measurements. We attach no numbers to it.

Rounds in the burst
rpm

Time a full magazine and divide: (rounds − 1) ÷ seconds × 60. Leave it empty and everything except the timings still works.

Positive is right, negative is left.

From a wall test

Stand a known distance from a flat wall, empty the burst into it, and measure how far the last hole sits above the first. That is a right-angled triangle, so it converts to degrees exactly.

What the pattern costs your hand

Degrees only become centimetres once we know your cm/360 — the one bridge between the screen and the pad.

Drill

Play the burst at its real rate

The marker walks the pattern at your fire rate. Follow it with the mouse — the point is the rhythm, not the shape.

Enter a fire rate to run the drill.

Idle. Press start and follow the marker.

What this deliberately does not model

Aim cone. Rust spreads shots inside a cone that grows while you hold the trigger, on top of the recoil the mouse can cancel, and no amount of perfect compensation removes it. Compensation buys you the first part of a burst; distance and trigger discipline buy the rest.
