Next force wipe

Facepunch force-wipes on the first Thursday of every month, at roughly 19:00 UTC. Everything below is derived from that one rule — no server is polled, so the countdown is right even when the game is down.

FAQ

What force wipe actually means

Four questions that get asked in every server chat on the first Thursday of the month.

01What is force wipe?

Once a month Facepunch ships a client and server update that changes the map generation seed data and the blueprint schema. Any server that takes the new build has to start from a freshly generated map, and every player on it starts from nothing: no base, no boxes, and on almost every server no blueprints either.

It is the one wipe a server cannot opt out of. A server can choose to wipe more often than this, but it cannot choose to skip it and stay on the current build.

02What time does it actually hit?

The first Thursday of the month, at roughly 19:00 UTC. That is the long-running convention, not a contract — the build ships when it is ready, and it has slipped by an hour or two often enough that you should treat 19:00 UTC as the earliest possible moment rather than the guaranteed one.

Servers then come back individually as their hosts pull the update, so the population curve rebuilds over the following few hours rather than all at once. The countdown on this page targets 19:00 UTC on the first Thursday.

03What do I lose, and what do I keep?

Gone: the map itself, your base, the tool cupboard, every box and its contents, your vehicles and everything in your inventory. Anything that lived on that server goes with the server’s save file.

Blueprints: it depends on the server. A force wipe clears learned blueprints unless the server is set to keep them, and most servers take the default and clear them. The ones that do not say so in their name — “no BP wipe” or “BPs kept” — so read the name before you assume you are starting the month with a tech tree already unlocked.

Kept regardless: everything that lives on your Steam account — skins, item store purchases, workshop items, your Steam inventory, and your Rust achievements and lifetime stat counters. Those are the numbers this site tracks, which is why a profile here survives every wipe.

04Do all servers wipe on this schedule?

Only the force wipe is mandatory. Between them, each server picks its own cadence: weekly is the most common on modded and high-population vanilla servers, with biweekly and monthly close behind. Many run a weekly map wipe but only clear blueprints on force wipe, which is why “weekly map, monthly BP” is written on so many server names.

Check the server’s own schedule before you commit to a base. Server lookup shows the last wipe date BattleMetrics recorded for any server it tracks.
